This is a great club. Very friendly, and relevant to those who want to get fit while learninf an effective and proportionate technique for defending yourself. Jim Halton is an expert martial artist who has clearly spent most of his life learning and teaching these skills. He is a very good teacher. The club members are welcoming, and approachable. There are no downsides… Go and find out for yourself.
Great club and atmosphere. Everyone is really friendly and Jim is a great instructor. The techniques are very applicable to real life situations so good to learn and also burn lots of calories in the sessions! Highly recommended!
I’ve been training with Paul for about a year now, this an excellent self defence class with a great instructor, suitable for adults of all ages and ability/fitness levels. The training is very realistic and practical so even after your first lesson you will have learnt skills which will leave you better prepared to deal with a situation where you may have todefend yourself. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to improve their fitness and confidence in a welcoming and encouraging environment.
I have been training with Paul for nearly a year now and joining his school has been one of the best decisions I have made! I think it is so important for women to know how to defend themselves and I feel more confident even since I started Krav Maga. Paul is an amazing instructor, very knowledgeable, makes me feel at ease and sometimes slightly adapts techniques for me as I am on the petite side. The group that attends the classes are friendly and there is always good energy. Highly recommended !

Going in to Krav Maga I had no idea what to expect. Having already had a few years of martial arts experience, I was blown away with how different but effective Krav was. The teaching over at the academy is simple but very effective, classes are usually based around a single aspect (weapon types, ground work, sparring etc). It’s no fuss and straight in to the action, after only a few lessons I’ve already had ingrained some of the staples of the system. If you’re looking for a realistic way of defence and increasing your fitness, look no further.
Joining BKMA Bristol is a brilliant way to learn self defence and improve your general fitness. A two-hour lesson consists of an intense warm up (roughly 30 minutes), followed by exercises focussed on self defence and combatives, including boxing and kicking techniques, ground work (grappling/wrestling), choke releases, edge weapon defence and much more – it’s never boring.
The overall atmosphere is very friendly and extremely supportive, which made it very easy for me to feel comfortable when I started 1 ½ years ago. Paul has tremendous amounts of experience and is always willing to back up the lessons learnt during the exercises with statistical or anecdotal background information as well as demonstrations. Another great feature of these lessons is the small class size that allows Paul to take plenty of time to help every student improve and to tailor exercises and explanations to every student’s experience and needs.
Also, Paul prioritises safety and, through close supervision, always makes sure that any exercises or sparring are done in a way that prevents immediate or (more importantly) long-term damage to his students’ health. I can highly recommend coming for a taster lesson if you are at all interested in self defence, just want to learn how to properly control your body or want to get/stay fit.
Excellent reality-based self-defence for new students and experienced martial artists alike. After fifteen years of studying other martial arts and combat systems, I began training Krav Maga with BKMA in 2013 and moved to the Clifton College class in 2015. I have been impressed throughout with the professionalism and wealth of experience offered by Paul Grey, Head of Association, and his instructors. I have seen this class coach many new students through the essentials of self-defence, and help experienced practitioners adapt to the Krav Maga system, which I recommend without hesitation. From situational awareness and pre-conflict positioning, to combative strikes and grappling escapes, through to pressure drills and intensity inoculation, the BKMA syllabus is well designed and provides challenges for everyone at all skill levels. Highly recommended, and just might save your life.
I have been training with Bristol Titans for twelve months and keep coming back for more. Our instructor Jim Halton has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience over many years of training and teaching and is passionate about delivering first class training to his students. Self defence is a serious business and is physically and mentally demanding but Jim tempers this with a good sprinkling of humour. Enjoyable and character building, look no further for a top Krav Maga school.
You will not find a friendlier, more welcoming club than this. Jim is a brilliant instructor with a practical, straight forward and humorous style, and supported by great senior students. If you fancy learning an effective self defence system, this is the place to do it.
Brilliant class for females as well as males! Self defence is so important for females in particular and Paul will teach you all the skills you need. Brilliant fitness, awesome instructor, worthwhile class.
I ve been practicing Krav Maga for 2 years, and I really enjoy it , it s a good mix between fitness (make you quicker and stronger) and technique. I ve seen a big progression on my resistance , power , technique , confidence etc .. Most of the time my teacher , was Paul , I cannot speak about others teacher but Paul is really qualify , takes the time to explain why we are doing what we are doing , and make sure everyone is doing right . I highly recommend this Krav Maga school !

Krav Maga combined with crossfit is a brutally effective defence system. Paul will push you physically, mentally and technically in the art of Krav Maga and you will learn realistic and proven defensive skills. Nothing else comes close.
The Atmosphere is brilliant, no matter what level you are you will always find new things to learn and better yourself. Jim is a solid experienced instructor of Krav Maga. I’ve known Jim for a few years now and I can honestly say you will be in safe hands. Your confidence will grow every day and it will become part of your life. You can get help with training methods, diet and much more.

Paul will put you through your paces but at the same time make sure you don’t pick up any bad habits that would lead to injury. I am fitter and more confident since starting, the class is also fun with people of all ability levels.
Come and train in the best self defence system there is. Jim Halton is a great teacher, he has been there, done that, and even printed the T-shirt.
His experience is second to none. You will be taught a no-nonsense, easy to use self defence system. You can go at your own pace, and steadily build your fitness so there is no worry of feeling out of your depth. Come on, give it a go, what have you to lose?.
Been training with Paul now for over a year and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made I did nothing befor regarding self defence or any other form of martial art went the usual route and joined gyms but nothing compares to what we do in a krav lesson. Paul from the beginning has been an amazing teacher with all his years of experience and expertise in everything he’s been involved in. I would highly recommend krav maga for anyone interested in learning about self defence whilst getting fit in the process the location is amazing with parking if you’ve tried the rest I suggest you try the best and come to one of pauls krav maga classes ….
I’ve done couple of combat sports briefly in the past, one of which was another Krav club in Bristol, but never stuck with them because the club’s were a bit clique’y. From the very first session at titans everyone was really welcoming and really keen to help in anyway they could. Jim is an awesome instructor he always has time for everyone to go through specific stuff but somehow manages to organise and control a class of 30+ students ridiculously efficiently.
Fitness has got 100000000 times better which is a great bonus. And the skill set I’ve already learned in a short time have me feeling confident with my choice to pursue a career in the police force.
Just a wicked class all round. Highly recommend for anyone. Best decision I’ve ever made. Cheers Jim!!!
Jim’s a top quality instructor not just in krav but in all things martial arts/mma/fitness related and makes all the classes interesting, fun and challenging and really encourages you to do your best and get the best out of it. Would recommend more if I could!!
Jim is a very experienced instructor with a great personality. The atmosphere is friendly and motivating. Regardless of what age, gender, size, colour you are, the team makes you feel welcome and helps you become the best possible version of you. If you want to learn real self-defense in an ego-free environment, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!
Started training 6weeks ago and have already learned so much! Jim’s straight forward approach makes things easy to learn. Everybody else in the class is extremely welcoming and the more experienced members have really helped me improve my technique! The classes are fun, challenging, educational and always such a great workout!
Fantastic club with a very knowledgeable and committed instructor. As well as the normal classes Jim also provides brilliant seminars to increase your skill-set. If you want to learn an effective self-defense system, get fit, and train with a great bunch of people this is the club for you.
An amazing community of martial arts enthusiasts, who train hard together, without the intimidating atmosphere that sometimes comes along with such places. The instructor is dedicated, knowledgeable and very senior within the British Krav Maga Association, as well as an experienced close protection practitioner who is effective and passionate about passing on his knowledge and skills in an engaging way. The classes are varied, interesting and accessible to all skill levels, but also pack the punch and the tough conditioning training that you would expect from a martial art like Krav Maga.
